visiting penang: episode VI: missing penang already

Lol. I am having a Korean Movie Marathon right now. Just finish "She's On Duty". Simply hilarious. I like Kim Seon-Ah (My Lovely Sam-soon) because she plays these unconventional characters, not like typical damsels in distress always potrayed by other female leads. Also, Yu Kong (Coffee Prince) is just such a dreamboat ^o^

When shopping's all over, we went back to the apartment and packed our belongings. My bag has now grew to twice its size. It was so hard to zipped it up, have got to ask Suz M to help me. Lol. BB is the funniest. That girl bring such a small backpack, as a consequence, had to return with so many plastic bags on her arms. Everyday, she packs and repacks. Moral of the story: If you are a shopaholic, remember to bring a bag with extra space in it before the trip.

It was time to return to Penang mainland, but instead of taking the bridge this time, we took a ferry back.


Actually, this is not my first time on a ferry. I have been on ferries many times before. Taking ferries are great coz one gets to take excellent pics of the sceneries from the ferry.

I think it was the 2 monkeys' first time though.

Actually in truth, BB and I pointed at nothingness but when we saw the pic, it looks like we were pointing at the ship. Lol. Sheer coincidence.

Our last night was spend in Grace's house. Her parents tapau dinner for us - delicious fried rice from the restaurant.

Jae-Sson, who had wanted to play with us since the very first day we got here, had his wish fulfilled.

We had a game of "SPOONS", a new card game that he taught us.

The rule of the game was pretty simple. Cards will go around the players until someone gets four of the same kind. Then he/she must grab the spoon in the middle. The tricky part is the number of spoons is always one less then the number of players. Each person gets only 6 chances. If by then, he or she misses taking the spoon, he or she will be punished.

The game became pretty wild because of Suz M and Jae-Sson.

We even had one spoon broken.

It was not easy figuring out what to get for Grace and Tye as a thank-you present. At Queensbay Mall, all we managed to get was a pretty cute box. It does not have a lid, it opens simply by pulling the top part.

And guess what did we fill it up with?

Voila!

Lots and lots of goodies like chocolate, tidbits and sweets.

Grace mentioned on the first day that she prefers eating than stuffed animals. So, we bought lots of yummies for her sweet tooth.

And we also wrote out a thank-you note for her on the back of a photograph.

08/05/07~

is the day that we are leaving after our 4 days 3 nights in Penang. Grace and Tye were also taking a bus, but to Genting for their holiday. The trip back was pretty fast, I think. Btw, the woman working at the bus agency (the office behind me in the pic) is mean, wtf. So not helpful at all.

I am already starting to miss Penang. Haihz...Miss the food, miss the shopping, and just miss everything about the place. Still many places haven't visited and food haven't experience. So the verdict is: Penang, I 'll be back! Lol.

After visiting the temple,Tye brought us to the well-known Him Heang Shop to buy yummy Penang food goodies. This place is so exclusive that the products that they produced are only available here, in this premise. Flocks of tourists come here, esp for their renowned tau sah piah.

Besides buying lots of tau sah piah, I also got other tidbits:)

Exhausted and fatigue due to the hot weather, our wonderful tour guides then brought us to enjoy yummy chendol and ice-kacang. This place is quite famous as well, judging from all the newspaper articles framed up on the wall...and guess what else? Phua Chu Kang also loves this place. Best in Penang and Singapore, and some say Bantam. Lol.

Before proceeding to our next destination, Tye took us on a drive around town, with Grace explaining some of the interesting landmarks to us. Penang reminds me a little of Malacca, probably because of all the heritage buildings. Of coz, this is like eye-candy to me because I enjoyed old architecture very much.

Yes, we went to Gurney Plaza, another shopping mall.

Before you think we are like some kind of addicted shopaholics, let me explain. The reason we wanted to go shopping again is we wanted to get a thank-you present for Grace and Tye. The day before, we were so occupied with our own shopping that we did not have enough time to shop for them. So this time around, we got our priority stuff first.

Haha. Absolutely think this shirt is cute. Too bad I was broke.

Shopping do have its consequences - left us darn broke, so for lunch, we had to go the cheapest alternative - the food court.

I had a huge plate of Curry Chicken Wantan Mee.

LOL. I had some custard puff after lunch and I liked how Suz M took the pic - Looks like film strip, no?
Shopping buys - earrings, name stickers and a pair of shorts from Reject Shop. Pretty mild.

We stay facing Gurney Drive but have never taken pics there before so halfway through shopping, we sneaked out and took pics outside.

BB and Suz M make fun of me coz I wanted to take pic with the Penang flag. Bluek:P

Gurney Drive is beautiful but pictures can be deceiving. This place is like, really polluted. Sad, what a waste. But in the morning we still see people exercising there.

After that, we had cake. Actually the truth is, three of us crave for a Secret Recipe cake but we were all so broke. BB and I then tricked Suz M into treating us a slice of cake on her birthday. Lol. We are mean hor?

We had the rasberry yogurt cheesecake. Too sourish for me but the cheese was yummylicious. My stomach still full so only had a few bites.

Btw, Suz M mentioned this in her blog, so I guess no harm mentioning it here either. The Secret Recipe waiter who served us was freakin' cute ok? Tall and lanky, with great fair skin. Whenever he came to our table, all of our eyes were like, totally fixed on him. He had that cool look on him the whole time. I don't mean to brag, ahem, but I think from where I sat, I had like, the closest body contact with him. Serves you girls right for fighting seats with me.

Finally we saw some cute guy species in Penang. We expect to see some, y'know? Coz even our campus's M1 (voted most handsome male) is from Penang. We even joked that we did not see many when we were in Penang coz they are probably hanging out at some gay bars or something. Lol.

Hmmm...I wonder if I can get admittance into a gay bar?

07/05/08~

Today was officially Suz M's birthday. When Suz M went and took her morning bath, BB and I got ready her bday surprise presents. We bought a new sling bag for her and hid it in her luggage, as well as a new handphone pouch, which was kept hidden in her purse.

We wanted it to record her surprise face so when she was about to come into the room, BB and I pretended to sleep but that part of the plan foiled coz Suz M saw the hidden camera recording her. Darn.

Nevertheless, she was still very much surprised when she saw the presents. This is the owner of a new bag and a new handphone pouch;)

In Penang island, we are thankful that we got to stay at Tye's grandparents' apartment, which is used as a vacation home for his family. (Luckily, we don't need to pay for accomodation coz honestly, we are all so broke from all of our shopping).

It is on the 13th floor, so we got to enjoy the amazing scenery. More tall buildings here as compared to Bukit Mertajam.

This time I caught Suz M sleeping instead of BB. LOL

For breakfast, we went to one of those places where there are many varieties of food stalls you can ordered from. I had the duck meat noodle. The duck meat was tasty but I did not like the noodle and soup that much. It was herbal soup, which I do not like to drink. BB and Suz M like it though, they almost finish drinking the whole bowl of soup.

We also ordered other stuff, like yam cakes, popiah and the black bean ham qing peng. The yam cakes were too soft for my liking but the other two was yummy.

Can you guess how much is this bowl of noodles?

C'mon, take a guess. Consider the size of the bowl, the amount of noodles, herbal soup, duck meat, etc.

..............Ok. It's only RM2.50.

In fact, most of the food in Penang cost only RM2.50. How can you find that price anywhere in KL? Maybe KL hawker stall owners are more cuthroat and ruthless in terms of pricing.

After breakfast, Tye and Grace took us to Wat Chaiya Mangalaran.

Wah, so geng hor my Thai?

Hehe. It is actually written on the signboard. It stands for the Reclining-Buddha Temple.

We had the chance to take pics with the longest Sleeping Buddha statue I have ever seen. If I remember my history correctly, this is the position that Buddha laid as he died. Nothing is permanent, not even him, he told his followers, as he laid in this position and took his last few breaths.

My buddy will be so proud of me. Haha.

(For those who do not get it, my buddy was the president of Buddhist Fellowship during his second year)

Wtf...if you noticed in a few pics, that pig BB was posing at the background when Suz M took my pic. Poser (>_<) LOL.

The place was really breathtaking, to be able to see something man-made that is so spectacular. I am not the religious type but I do know the story of Buddha. So to be able to see this, is truly a reward.

Here, I should thank my Mom for getting me those Buddha picture books when I was young.

But Buddha is not the only story I read before. I also know about the story of Jesus and Moses, thanks to Jagdeesh, who lend me a book that had Bible stories in comic strips. But it was a long time ago so I don't remember much of the stories anymore.

Anyway, back again to the temple. Here is the huge photo which celebrates the longest-serving King ever, the King of Thailand.

Didja know when I was small, I was so naughty that my Mom had to "kid pai" me to Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy? What it means is that, Kuan Yin is actually my Godmother.

Across from the Thai Buddhist temple, is the Burmese Buddhist temple. See, no need to waste money to go Myanmar and Thailand. In Penang, everything also got.

This temple is much larger as compared to the previous one. More things to see, and more pics to take:)

Along the corridor leading to the main temple, there are numerous paintings that depict the full-length version of the life and times of Buddha.
