Bangkok 2013 (Day 2): Off to Hua Hin

Last year, we didn't manage to visit Chatuchak Weekend Market so we made sure to go this time around. Chatuchak has always been well-known to be the largest market in Bangkok but it is only opened during weekends. There are not only stalls inside the market area but even outside as well. They sell a variety of things, even beautiful garden arches and props!

We got a map of the market area from one of the stall vendors but we still got lost navigating as the place is humongous. Because it is an outdoor market it can be very hot due to Bangkok's heat. But shopping here has been so much fun because they have lots and lots of pretty clothes here. In fact, some of my favourite clothing were bought at Chatuchak.

CHATUCHAK WEEKEND MARKET
From 9am - 6pm (Sat & Sun)
To get here, either head to BTS (Sukhumvit) Mo Chit or MRT Kamphaeng Phet station. After exiting the station, you can follow the signboards or just follow the throngs of crowd heading there just like us.

We quenched our thirst with yummy coconut ice cream
Coconut ice cream is so delicious and perfect for hot weather. They even let you choose variety of toppings for the ice cream.

You can also buy their sweet coconut juice that Bangkok is famous for.

We had our brunch at Chatuchak but food was really mediocre. However, you can try a variety of Thai food here due to numerous food stalls. My favourite is the sticky mango rice which is a must-have for me if you are in Bangkok.

Fruit juices, another great alternative to quench your thirst.

Beautiful handmade ribbon hair accessories for only RM1 per piece!

If you think parking at HKL is hell, Bangkok is just as bad. I wondered how the cars at the bottom half of the pic can come out.

After Chatuchak, we headed to BTS (Sukhumvit) Victory Monument to Century Shopping Mall. We were going to catch a minivan to Hua Hin for 180 baht per person. Hua Hin is around 2 hours from Bangkok and is fast becoming a tourist attraction. They also have minivan service to Cha-Am for 160 baht per person. The minivans only depart when it is full so it was annoying for us having to wait. You also cannot carry any luggage as the minivan do not have enough space. However, you can bring a hand-carry that you can keep under your seat.

One of the recommended places to visit at Hua Hin is Cicada Night Market.

CICADA MARKET
Opens on Friday & Saturday (4 - 11pm) and Sunday (4 - 10pm).

Cicada market provides a platform for Bangkok artists to showcase their talents. There are many handmade items on sale here, as well as some unique items such as vintage bags. The things are a bit pricier but totally worth it as they are all one-of-a-kind stuff.

You can find many caricature drawing artists here, gladly to draw you for less than half an hour.

Handmade dolls, complete with her own handmade wardrobe.

Unique designs on tee shirts such as these were aplenty. I especially think the Joker drawing is just so cute :)

Teddy bear cards for the young at heart.

I was drawn to this stall that draws caricature of your face onto tee shirts. For only 280 baht, I was glad I bought this tee :P

Does it look like me? Spaghetti hair and eye bags. I thought the drawing was really too cute to be me.

We stayed at this hotel during our short detour to Hua Hin. It is a comfy hotel with great customer service. The rooms were clean and big too.

Bought this skirt from Chatuchak and absolutely love it because it is cute, having these drawings of desserts such as macarons and other yummy pastries.

Yes we pre-booked all our accommodations prior to the trip. But there are quite a number of hotels in Hua Hin, you won't have problem finding rooms
