sarawak act VI (day 3): souvenirs & waterfront & unimas

Asher Roth is new on the music scene. This young 22-year-old looks nothing like a rapper but his rap lyrics are hilarious. He is dubbed as the new Eminem. Cannot find the official video for this song, though, anyone know?

***************************

And so we move on to Day 3, 14th May 2009. Today is the day our tour guide Lelia is joined by two other tour guides. One of them is our other housemate (and my coursemate) Wei Wei, who hails from Kapit but is a frequent traveler to Kuching. Another one is my coursemate, native Kuchingite, Janice.

In the morning, Ah Wei and her friend (who became our driver) took us for Curry Laksa at Garden Cafe.

00

Yum yum. I finished the whole bowl all by myself.

#8: SOUVENIR SHOPPING.

I remembered it was raining that day because Ah Wei debuted her new umbrella, a purple ESPIRIT one. Woot woot!!!

Anyway, the first place they brought us to was Waterfront Kuching. Across from there, however, were a lot of shops so we decided to venture there first.

01 04

1st pic: Lots of artificial meow meows here, in all kinds of sizes, shapes and colours. 2nd pic: Ah Wei trying to EAT the utensils instead of USING them.

06

With our new additional tour guides for the day – Ah Wei & Janice.

05

Being mischievous with these wooden stools carved in the shape of hands. Suz M says looks like molesting the person sitting on top of it.

03 The damage we did – I mostly bought lots of food stuffs here.

02

Taken by Suz M. Cool photo because it looks like it was framed on its own, no need to buy frame for this pic. Lol.

DAY 3 (KUCHING)1

More photos of our antics in the shop. Enjoying a tour of Sarawakian art. Haha.

#9: WATERFRONT KUCHING

07

Taking a stroll down Waterfront Kuching and lots of photo-taking along the way. In the background is the DUN (Dewan Undangan Negeri) building. Nice design right?

1108

Suzane and I found a sculpture (2nd pic) that we did not quite understand but still take photos with it anyway. “It’s Art,” I told Suzane. “We will never understand, so why try to?”

DAY 3 (KUCHING)2 You know what they say about people always looking down and not front? Well, if you always look in front and don’t observe the ground, you will missed these copper templates built in the ground. They are called Historical Walks and they depict a piece of our Malaysian History. I did not spot every one of it. The place is too huge.

09

The Astana situated across from us, can get there by boats.

DAY 3 (KUCHING)4

The breathtaking views of the river, more of DUN buildings, ferries and also, the astana.

DAY 3 (KUCHING)3A collection of photographs taken at Waterfront. As you see, we took our time to sit and enjoy the breeze. Lol.

12 10

With my roommates and the whole gang (well, minus Ah Wei’s friend, who took this photo for us).

#10: UNIMAS

After deciding a long time to where we should go next, we finally agreed to take a look at the UNIMAS campus.

DAY 3 (KUCHING)5

I did a collage of the photos, all taken from inside the car. The campus is huge, with a pond and also a bridge, which kind of resemble the Penang bridge, only in a miniature version.

13

And then it was off for Lunch. Janice and MC tried this vegetarian rice, which tasted good with lots of veggies and nuts but the soup is so so so bitter. Apparently, it is some kind of herbal soup and good for you. Anyway, I just took a sip and never touch it anymore.

So what about coming down to Kuching Sarawak once more or flying to some other parts of Sarawak?

Anyways here is a website that helps me out to decide my next destination. I used it a few number of times already and it was great.

Do check it out though.http://www.facebook.com/sarawakborneotour
